Brighton
About the chapter
Brighton and Hove is a vibrant and exciting city. A tourist centre and favourite of summer day-trippers, it's famous for its bustling seafront and open culture. Packed with restaurants and independent shops, there's a unique buzz here – an atmosphere us locals deeply cherish. The city is more than tourism, though. With two universities and many innovative businesses, it is creative and dynamic, with an enormous amount of potential.
It is also an expensive place to live. Stuck between the South Downs and the sea, there is very little available land, so the housing crisis bites deep. Properties are small and garden space is limited. Even people moving here on London wages, looking for a more affordable life, can find it surprisingly out of reach. As with much of the country, local government services have thinned out over the years. The council is far over budget, and is deferring projects as it struggles to cover its shortfall.
LFG Brighton wants to change this. We're here to rally the community, with its experience, knowledge, and passion. To empower people tired of stagnation and ready to take action. We believe this city can grow, boldly and sustainably – with more homes, better services, and a stronger economy. Together, we can make the positive difference our city needs.
Launch
We launched at the end of April, getting together a group of like-minded people to discuss our hopes and fears for our city, and what we can do to kick start a better future.
Unblocking Local Housing
We've got a big focus on local development, particularly house-building. We want to be an energetic counterweight to blockers, pushing to unlock the building our city needs.
Improving Local Services
We are looking to partner with local councillors to figure out the most effective routes for improving services and driving growth in Brighton.
